Applying for Housing

So You Want to Live on Campus?

Whether you currently live on or off, if you'd like to live on campus next year, you have to apply for housing. Applying will put you into the housing lottery, giving you a shot at getting an on-campus room for the coming year. While not brain surgery, the application process does have strict deadlines. If you miss a deadline, or do not follow correct procedure, you will not be eligable for on-campus housing.

Will Applying Guarentee Me a Spot on Campus?

The short answer to this is "No". For this year, the Office of Residential and Community Developement have changed "Guarenteed Housing" to "Priority Housing". Students who have Priority Housing status and apply for housing are guarenteed to get a lottery number that will give them a room on campus. This will not, however, necessarily give them better number than any other student who gets housing through the lottery. Priority housing is given to students on full scholarship and some student leadership positions. If you want to know if your club status gives you priority housing, ask your advisor.

How, exaclty, do you apply for housing?

There are two parts to applying to housing: the application and paying your housing deposit.

Application- Starting on Monday, February 28th, you can apply. Applying is done through TESS, similar to signing up for classes. You want to go to TESS and click on "Apply Housing". You'll need your TCNJ ID number to log in (This can also be found on TESS). You're also considered an upperclassman, in case you didn't know. After logging in, you'll get a form similar to the one you filled out before coming to TCNJ outlining your roommate preferences, study and sleep habits, and other useless trivia. The form is quick, basic, and painless.

Paying your Deposit- Once you fill out the form on TESS, you'll need to take a $100 check to Green Hall 119. You MUST do this by 4:00 Friday, March 4th or you will not be included in the lottery. The offices in Green Hall close by 4:00 on weekdays and are not open on weekends, so make sure you get there before the deadline.
